    Description
Indian almond leaves have been widely used by Asian breeders of tropical fish (Angel fish, Arowanas, Cardinals, Corydoras, Discus, Betta etc) to stimulate breeding and promote health and vitality in tropical fish. They love it! The betta fish is making a bubble nest immediately after she placed the first leaf into her tank. Shrimps like to feed on the nutritious leaf after it softens in water. You can add the leaf directly into the tank or may be boiled and the extract to be added into the tank.
In shrimp tanks these leaves are often used not only for their pH lowering ability, anti-fungal, or anti-bacterial properties but also as a food source for shrimp. When the leaves are left in the tank a multitude of microorganisms will begin to colonize the leaf and break it down. These microorganisms create a bio film which is the preferred food source for shrimp, especially shrimp lets. Increasing the biofilm in a tank will often result in higher survival rates for shrimp lets. These leaves can be left in the tank until they are fully eaten (the stem is usually left behind) and they will not have any negative impact on water quality. Besides shrimp these leaves are ideal for betta's, discus, gouramis, killifish, tetras, arowana, angelfish, South American dwarf cichlids, corys, plecos, and any other species that comes from black water habitats.
Examples of situations when Indian almond leaves are commonly used
Some Aquarius use Indian leaves all the time, while others use them only for special purposes, i.e. when they feel that their fish needs some extra pampering. It is especially common to use India Almond Leaves (IAL) When setting up a new aquarium When a new fish is introduced to an aquarium To induce breeding, especially in Betta When setting up and maintaining a fry aquarium  When a fish is sick, especially if the sickness affects the skin In the plastic transport bag when a fish is moved to a new home When keeping delicate fish species that are considered difficult to keep and breed in captivity.
Benefits of Catappa Leaves for Shrimps/Fishes
Simulate black water condition which is the natural environment for tropical fish and shrimps.
Cure sick fish of bacterial infections and to help speed up healing of damaged fins or body injuries. However, it is not a magic "cure-all", especially when dealing with diseases like dropsy, velvet etc. think of it as more of a preventative medicine.
    Enhance fertility of fishes.
Contain humic acids and tannins which have antibacterial & antifungal properties.
Contains chemicals that will bind with ammonia in the water.
Contains calcium needed to activate the muscles and to develop strong   bones, teeth and scales.
Enhances the natural color of the fish.
Lowers the pH of the water and absorbs harmful chemicals.
Adds essential trace elements to the water.
    How to use
This magic leaf can be placed in any filter, filter system or water where the replacement should take every two weeks. Note: Water after using leaves was weak acid, yellowish color.
Putting a leaf in 10 to 15 liters of water can keep the fish active and healthy. Extend our cycle of changing water from every other day to every 6-7 days. Leaves can be kept in water for 1 week. Less chlorine water can improve its efficiency.
Leaves can float in the cylinder to increase the frequency of reproduction, because the male likes to build his bubble lair below the dry leaves.
We can also use this leaf to treat bacterial infections. Crush a leaf into a small tank of about 1 L, changing water every other day for the sick fish .For a week, avoid direct sunlight, and maintain the temperature of about 28 -29 degrees.
